I have been exercising for over 42 years. First as an Olympic weightlifter competing in state, regional and national contests. I won Florida state titles in the late 70’s and early 80’s. During this career I competed in several weight classes as I matured and added on weight. I won the State title in four weight classes; 165, 181, 198 and eventually 220lb class and also was named Florida Weightlifter of the year in 1982.
The abuse that you put your body through competing in weightlifting is tremendous. One injury led to another until I finally had to hang it up in 1983 when I partially tore my patellar tendon.
Although no longer able to compete, I still had a great desire to stay in shape. I read anything and everything that had to do with training. As I got older and my metabolism changed I quickly realized that nutrition had a large role in staying fit, so I threw out the McDonalds and Burger King lunches that I did daily.
Now with over 42 years of working out and trying every type of workout there is and every type of diet gimmick, I can at least convey to you my opinion of all of this since I think there is a lot of misinformation out there.
This isn’t just about working the body. A well rounded fitness program also involves mental and spiritual well being. So I will also post articles in these areas in order to help you achieve overall fitness wellness!
